The Brief

The newly renamed LNER Stadium (formerly Sincil Bank) has been the home of Lincoln City Football Club since 1895, with various stadium iterations in the 125 years since. The stadium currently has the capacity to hold over 10,000 supporters on a matchday, with 1,944 of those housed in the stadium’s Stacey-West Stand to the north. Lincoln City’s home games often attract sell-out crowds, including large away followings, as a result of their recent league promotions.

A planning application was submitted in December 2019 seeking to extend the Stacey West Stand in order to increase its capacity to approximately 3400 seats. The application also sought permission for a new perimeter ball fence enclosing the 3G artificial grass pitch as part of the investment which will refurbish and upgrade this key sports facility for the Club and the local community.

Globe was engaged to provide supporting planning and transport planning input.

Our Role

Globe submitted a planning application along with producing a Supporting Planning Statement and Transport Statement which acknowledged the fantastic partnership working that was taking place between the Football Club, Stagecoach and the City Council to minimise the use of the private car and maximise travel by local bus services. The application package demonstrated the expanded stand and associated investment would be delivered with no adverse impacts but substantial benefits to the Club and the locality.

Outcomes

Planning permission granted to enable the Club to progress funding opportunities with organisations such as the Football Foundation.
