St James Caffe, London

  • Client:
    Biagio Cassella
  • Local Authority:
    City of Westminster Council

The Brief

St James caffe is a well used establishment on Pall Mall offering refreshments to the local residential, business and visitor community. It has kitchens and tables and chairs within the building and a small number of bistro tables on street. The owner received an enfoircement notice demanding that take-away sales ceased as it was considered that this element of sales was contrary to policy as it would amount to the loss of a shop unit.

Our Role

Our advice was this policy position was counterintuitive and certainly appeared to ignore the actual position of uses within this strectch of Pall Mall as well as the quality of the facility and the benefit it brought to the local area.

Outcomes

Globe prepared evidence and a submission seeking planning permission and was successful in securing the formal permission needed to retain this important local facility.
