Openart Studio Project – Darlington Arts Centre

  • Client:
    Darlington Borough Council

The Brief

To explore the context for change for the Openart Studio project, an open access community art studio based at Darlington Arts Centre, and to propose options for its future development. The project was commissioned by the Openart Studio’s key stakeholders Darlington PCT, Darlington Borough Council and County Durham and Darlington NHS.

Our Role

The information and evidence to inform this study was sourced through a mixture of face to face and telephone interviews, background information supplied by the Borough Council and further desk research.

Working in a sensitive environment with vulnerable users of Openart, we conducted a review of the current programme including organisational processes, key partnerships, health impacts, creative development, and engagement and participation. Globe then explored the ambitions, opportunities and challenges for the project in order to produce a set of robust proposed options for future provision and delivery of the Openart Studio project.

Globe delivered this project working with Affiliate Ann Wallis of Culture Partners

Outcomes

Globe presented 13 specific recommendations which were accepted and actioned by the project.  The Openart Studio project was offered a 3 year funding extension from County Durham and Darlington NHS in response to these changes.
