Extension to DoubleTree Hilton Hotel, Lincoln
This proposal sought to increase the provision of guest bedrooms at the DoubleTree Hilton Hotel – itself a development that Globe led. The opportunity to expand the hotel, located on Lincoln’s Brayford Wharf North waterfront, resulted from the acquisition and demolition of the existing adjacent building and enabled a substantial rear extension. This development would provide an additional 28 guest rooms at the hotel and extended conferencing/banqueting facilities, whilst also enabling an increase in the amount of car parking available on site of a level sufficient to account for the proposed growth in capacity.
Globe were appointed to provide a report to form a key part of the submitted Design, Access & Heritage Statement which detailed the scheme’s compliance with the necessary planning policy considerations. Accordingly, Globe was required to demonstrate that the proposed expansion was consistent with the National Planning Policy Framework’s desire for sustainable development in an economic, social and environmental sense. In doing so, a central part of Globe’s role was to situate the development clearly within the City of Lincoln Local Plan’s aspirations for the revival of the city centre and Central Mixed Use Area whilst simultaneously demonstrating the application would positively enhance the appearance of the immediate street-scene and appearance of the Conservation Area.
Globe was able to successfully demonstrate the scheme’s compliance with national and local planning policy and planning permission was granted for the scheme. The development has since been completed and has contributed to the success of the DoubleTree as one of Lincoln’s premier hotels and venues.
