Branston Hall Spa

  • Client:
    Branston Hall Hotel
  • Local Authority:
    North Kesteven District Council

The Brief

The existing day spa is located within a converted and extended domestic house within the spectacular grounds of Branston Hall Hotel. It has developed an envious reputation with hotel clients and other visitors and its success has meant that the facilities have become cramped and in desperate need of expansion.

The listed house and gardens set some challenges alongside the proximity of the available development land to establsihed and valuable woodland. However, it was agreed that the planning and design approach would need to follow a well designed and very high quality pavilion structure that could integrate subtly with the existing listed buildings withiout detracting from them. The scale of new accommodation, whilst challenging, needed to appear subservient to the historic properties, safeguard the trees and offer a net benefit to the overall historic asset.

Our Role

Globe coordinated the design team to progress potential design solutions which were then advanced in liaison with council planning and conservation officers to produce a very high quality, confident but respectful development proposal.

Outcomes

All of these challenges were achieved and the planning and listed building consents granted.
