Two major developments Globe has submitted for clients in the centre of Lincoln received strong backing from Councillors at the Planning Committee yesterday.
After a great deal of work by the partnership striving to develop a new footbridge and associated development over the High Street level crossing the final proposal was formally approved. It will see a very high quality structure providing a route over the rail crossing, for able bodied and disabled alike, when the barriers are down. This will inevitably help relieve the frustrations felt by local people and hopefully stop those taking risks with their lives by jumping or lifting the barriers when a train is approaching.
The development will also see the transformation of the adjacent building at 179 High Street and the commencement of a pedestrian link through Wigford Yard, between High Street and Brayford, which will be completed by the University’s investment in due course.
Also receiving support was a proposal to deliver a high quality and significant landmark building on the vacant site adjacent to the Holiday Inn Express at Ruston Way. This building will accommodate 458 student rooms, in apartment formats, with retail and commercial space at the ground floor. Some 55% of the ground floor units are pre-let and now that permission is secured the developers are confident that the remaining units will be taken shortly.
